Want to know more about VENs?

This short blog post discusses a Deakin University trial involving almost 300 households using a Virtual Energy Network. We also have a three minute video for you!

The blog post describes how households shared the value of locally generated solar through the digital trading platform. A quote from the article says:

"Overall, households buying electricity paid less than they otherwise would have, while solar-exporting households received higher payments for their generation."

I particularly like this comment:

"Survey responses indicated participants became more confident that the energy system was operating fairly and that renewable energy was delivering benefits to local communities."

In the three minute video the Deakin Research Project lead (Dr Andrea La Nauze) explains the idea of a VEN and some of the participants in the project describe their experiences.

Or, if you are really keen, you can download a PDF of the full report of the trial here.
